The Story Behind the Piece
This elegant glasses case is crafted from a vintage 1980s kimono obi, sourced from a trusted kimono retailer in Shizuoka, Japan. Woven with delicate gold thread, the fabric has a subtle yet luxurious shimmer. Its smooth texture and minimal embroidery make it not only visually refined but also easy to care for – combining simplicity with quiet opulence.
Originally created for formal occasions such as weddings and coming-of-age ceremonies, this obi carries the spirit of celebration and grace. Now reimagined as a glasses case, it offers a new life for the fabric while honoring the cultural heritage it represents. A timeless piece that bridges the past and present, crafted for those who value beauty with a story.
The silk was sourced in Kyoto’s renowned Nishijin district and carefully reimagined at my London atelier.
